Scholarships

The following scholarship opportunities are available to relatives of BASC non-student employees. Refer to each opportunity for scholarship eligibility and criteria.

Sandra A. Mason Scholarship

Philosophy and purpose

This scholarship was established to provide financial support for a relative of a current or retired employee* of the Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation including the College Bookstore with demonstrated academic achievement and either leadership qualities or community service.

*Please note that for the purposes of this award, employee refers to our regular union, part-time, management, administrative, and professional team members.

Eligibility, criteria, and selection process

Applicant must

  1. Be a blood, spousal or "context" relative of a person currently employed by or retired from Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation at The College at Brockport. The employee must have worked for BASC for at least two years. "Context" is defined as someone who resides in the home of a current or former employee (such as a stepchild).
  2. Be accepted for enrollment as an undergraduate student at The College at Brockport as a regular admit freshman or transfer student OR be a full-time undergraduate student at the College taking at least 12 credit hours.
  3. Possess a minimum grade point average of 2.5.
  4. Work at least part-time while attending The College at Brockport or high school if an in-coming freshman or transfer student. The work need not be with BASC.

Number and scheduling of award

  1. The assistance is in the form of a $1,000 educational expense grant to one eligible student each year. The scholarship does not automatically renew; however, a recipient may re-apply for this scholarship each year as long as he/she continues to meet the eligibility requirements.
  2. The award will be credited to the student's bill during the semester(s) following receipt. The recipient must use this award for educational expenses at The College at Brockport and may not receive the award in cash.
  3. The scholarship is funded with the intention of making annual awards. Further awards are based on the same criteria and selection process for as long as funds are available.

Selection process

  1. The Sandra A. Mason Scholarship selection committee, consisting of the BASC executive director and their direct reports, will select recipients based on the criteria above (financial need 60%, academic achievement 20%, leadership or community service 20%) and follow the timeline set annually by The College at Brockport.
  2. The award committee chair will notify, in writing, the recipient, the Scholarship Office, and BASC Executive Director Emeritus Sandra Mason.
  3. The award committee chair will also notify, in writing, each applicant who was not a recipient of the award.

Ed Kumar Scholarship

AMOUNT

A total of $1,000 will be awarded annually following awarding the scholarship. This scholarship is to assist one eligible student per academic year. The scholarship does not automatically renew; however, a recipient may re-apply for this scholarship each year as long as he/she continues to meet eligibility requirements. This award may be used for educational expenses at the College at Brockport.

ELIGIBILITY AND CRITERIA

This scholarship is established to provide the financial means for the child or grandchild of a current full-time employee in the Division of Administration & Finance of the College at Brockport (including Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation employees and Research Foundation office employees) to enroll at the College at Brockport as a regularly admitted freshman or trasnfer student, or for currently enrolled students to continue their education at the College at Brockport. 

ELIGIBILITY

Student must meet all three eligibility requirements. 

  • Relative - be the child or grandchild of a current full-time employee in the Division of Administration & Finance of The College at Brockport (including BASC employees and Research Foundation office employees)
  • Enrolled student - be accepted for enrollment as a freshman or transfer student at the College at Brockport, OR be a currently-enrolled student at the College at Brockport.
  • Admissions criteria - meet all admissions criteria as established by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the College at Brockport  

 CRITERIA

Student must...

  • File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by April 1st of the year in which to the scholarship is being requested 
  • Submit a completed application AND a signed 500 work typewritten personal statement describing their background, why they have chosen the College at Brockport, and what their plans are for the future. 

Scholarship Application

To apply for the above scholarships, students must first sign up with the Academic Works system and complete a general application. The system will then recommend scholarships that the applicant may be eligible for. If you do not see the Sandra Mason or Ed Kumar Scholarship listed, click on All Scholarships and find it there. In addition to completing the general application, applicants will be asked to submit additional information required for each of these scholarships.
